"My 23 year old brother Leon was left severely brain damaged after suffering a brutal blow to his head in an unprovoked attack on the street. The incident was devastating, and has been life changing for both my brother and our family.

Since the attack, Leon has to be constantly cared for by our family and, as a consequence of this, will never be able to work again. Going through any further stress was the last thing we wanted after what had happened, but as we needed to make sure we could provide for Leon in his new circumstance; we instructed solicitors to make a claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.

Our solicitor managed to reinstate my brother's case, and went on to settle it for the sum of £1.2 million – something I never dreamed of after our previous solicitors tried to settle for £40,000.00! They then went on to sue our previous solicitors for the interest my brother would have accrued on his settlement during all the time they wasted, and managed to recover a further £125,000.00.

Obviously nothing can make up for the life my brother lost in the attack. But at least we now have peace of mind that he can be suitably looked after for the rest of his life, and I'd like to thank our solicitor Tom for helping us achieve that. "
